As winter’s icy grasp takes hold, concerns about the functionality of solar-powered technologies, particularly solar street lights, come to the forefront. Solar lights are among the most popular alternative energy sources of lighting for gardens and streets. Do these eco-friendly and energy-efficient lights stand up to the challenges posed by frigid temperatures and shorter days? In this article, we unravel the science behind solar street lights and explore how these lights from E-lite not only endure but continue to light up our streets during winter.
Harvesting Sunlight, Even in Winter
One of the primary concerns during winter is the reduced sunlight hours. When solar street lights work in winter, they might underperform for the season due to several factors like snow covering the panels, angle of incidence of the sun, reduced solar radiation, and other factors. However, solar street lights of E-lite are equipped with advanced top quality mono-crystalline silicon solar panels that can efficiently harness sunlight, even in overcast conditions. The modern design of these panels ensures a steady conversion of sunlight into electrical energy, providing a continuous power supply for the lights.
Battery Storage for Longer Nights
As the winter nights lengthen, solar street lights rely on rechargeable batteries to store the excess energy generated during the day. Quality lithium batteries of E-lite are used to store the energy, provide energy for immediate requirements, and enable a back-up for days when there is little or no sun. High luminous efficiency of 185~200lm/W to maximize battery performance. And our batter quality can be controlled strictly because we have an independent production line and can guarantee that the batteries are all from original but not recycled. These batteries are designed to withstand colder temperatures, ensuring a consistent power supply throughout the extended night hours. This storage capacity becomes crucial for sustaining illumination during winter’s prolonged darkness.
LED Technology’s Winter Endurance
The heart of solar street lights lies in Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs), known for their resilience and efficiency. Unlike traditional lighting technologies that may struggle in the cold, LEDs operate optimally even in freezing temperatures. This makes them a reliable choice for maintaining consistent brightness during winter nights. E-lite owns high lumen LED for maximum efficacy and dedicated designed low-voltage solar controller technology with dimming capabilities for power-save management.
Smart Technologies for Efficiency
Solar street lights often incorporate intelligent features such as motion sensors and adaptive brightness control. These technologies contribute significantly to energy conservation during winter. Motion sensors ensure that lights activate only when needed, while adaptive brightness allows them to adjust their intensity based on real-time requirements, optimizing energy usage in colder, darker months. It just so happens, there are 3 type of controllers in E-lite to realize these functions.
1.Self Proprietary MPPT Controller
It has 3 modes which are constant mode, dusk to dawn mode and motion sensor mode. Light will automatically turn on at dusk and keep constant 45% brightness in a set power in the period under constant mode. Also it will turns on at dusk and remains at up to 100% brightness for 4 hours, then it turns to 30% brightness until dawn under dusk to dawn mode. What more, the controller will automatically operates at 30% brightness under motion sensor mode. When motion is detected, light increases to 100% until no motion is detected for 30 seconds, then returns to 30% brightness.
2.Regular MPPT Controller
This controller has two mode, five-stage mode and motion sensor mode. When you use the first mode, the lamps lighting divide into 5 stage, each stage time and dim can be setting according to demands. With dimming setting, it is an efficient way to save energy, and keep the lamp working in best power and time. And when light turns to another mode, it can present different brightness at different time periods with motion and without motion.
3.Hybrid MPPT Controller
Three modes are optional, dusk to dawn (D2D), five-stage night mode and TOT Mode (you can set the load on time before morning coming.)
In conclusion, solar street lights are not deterred by winter’s chill. Through a combination of advanced solar panel technology, efficient battery storage, durable LED lighting, and smart features, these lights continue to shine brightly during the coldest months. As winter settles in, solar street lights stand as a testament to the reliability and effectiveness of sustainable lighting solutions, providing not only illumination but also a beacon of environmental consciousness in the face of changing seasons. E-lite is a friend you can trust completely because we can provide you with the best lighting solutions in low temperatures.
